ORG researchers have many years experience in ontology research in a variety of disciplines, ranging from creating and maintaining large-scale ontologies and associated software to support natural language processing and other applications, to critical review and reconstruction of influential ontologies and ontology-based applications in the biomedical domain. ORG researchers are playing leading roles in a number of national and international ontology research consortia, and they have organized a wide variety of ontology training and dissemination efforts.

The Referent Tracking System (RTS) is an implementation of the Referent Tracking paradigm in which each real world entity is assigned its own unique ID. The application is designed to be able to store in a database - called here a 'repository'- references to
  • individual entities in reality,
  • the relationships that obtain between these entities, and
  • the generic classes the individual entities belong to.
